American Bath Group sought to evolve the existing Swanstone Menards shower configurator into a reusable, scalable platform hosted on the Swanstone website. The objective was to remove retailer specific dependencies and create a brand controlled solution that could support future configurators for additional ABG brands.

Key goals included improved visual rendering, the ability to save and share configurations without user accounts, reseller white labeling, and a flexible architecture that could scale across brands, product lines, and future enhancements.

Challenges

Swanstone needed to preserve the success of the original Menards configurator while addressing several limitations:

  • The solution was tightly coupled to a single retailer flow
  • Limited scalability for additional brands or configurator types
  • Retailer specific checkout and purchase paths had to be removed
  • Visual rendering needed to remain performant while supporting layered product views
  • Configurations needed to be savable and shareable without requiring user accounts
  • Integration with existing wishlist functionality and Cloudinary managed assets
  • Support for reseller branding and white labeling
  • A centralized architecture capable of supporting future expansion

Our Approach

Konabos repurposed the existing Jamstack based Menards configurator into a standalone, future ready platform designed for scalability and reuse.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Refactored the codebase to support multiple configurators hosted on unique URLs
  • Implemented layered 2D image rendering using PNG overlays to dynamically visualize shower selections
  • Generated unique configuration IDs allowing users to save and reload designs without authentication
  • Integrated Swanstone’s existing wishlist functionality for deeper engagement
  • Removed all retailer specific logic including checkout and external purchase links
  • Built print, share, and email capabilities for configuration quotes
  • Enabled white labeling for resellers including branding, colors, and domain flexibility
  • Created quote review pages with social sharing and Where to Buy integration
  • Designed admin capabilities for branding control and analytics capture
  • Planned scalability tiers to support both basic and advanced configurator use cases
