In an increasingly globalized world, the ability to communicate effectively across different languages is a vital asset for any business. As a Chief Technology Officer (CTO), you will likely be at the forefront of solving language use cases for your organization. One of the key challenges in this area is ensuring that your content is automatically translated into other languages as soon as it's published.

The Power of Automatic Translation in Kontent.ai

Kontent.ai is a headless Content Management System (CMS) that offers powerful tools for managing and delivering content across multiple channels. Kontent.ai provides integrations with Translations.com, XTM, and Phrase for translation. One of the most compelling features of Kontent.ai is its ability to integrate with external systems. If you plan on integrating with another translation provider, you can utilize the webhooks feature in Kontent.ai.

When you hit the publish button on your content in Kontent.ai, the system can be configured to automatically send the content to a translation service of your choice. The translated content is then returned to Kontent.ai, ready to be published across your various channels. This process saves time and resources and ensures consistency and accuracy in your multilingual content.

Implementing Automatic Translation: A Practical Example

Let's consider an existing site that publishes content in English and wants to expand its reach to several languages. With Kontent.ai, the process becomes straightforward.

Kontent.ai Webhook
  1. Integration: The first step is to integrate Kontent.ai with a translation service of your choice. In our case, we choose Azure Cognitive Services. The choice depends on your specific needs and preferences. Our team wrote a fairly small piece of code to act as the destination for the webhook from Kontent.ai. This code takes the English version of the content and translates content into several languages. This integration saves time and money by only translating phrases that have yet to be translated and maintains its translation cache.
  2. Configuration: Once the integration is complete, you'll need to configure Kontent.ai to automatically send new content for translation. This involves setting up a webhook in Kontent.ai that triggers the translation process when content is published.
  3. Review and Publish: After translating the content, it's returned to Kontent.ai automatically as language versions of the item. You can then review the translated content and make necessary adjustments before publishing it.

As a CTO, you're tasked with making strategic decisions that impact your organization's technological capabilities and overall efficiency. Implementing automatic translation in Kontent.ai can bring several benefits:

  1. Efficiency: Automatic translation eliminates the need for manual translation processes, saving time and resources.
  2. Consistency: Using the same translation service across all your content ensures consistency in your multilingual content.
  3. Scalability: As your business grows and you need to reach audiences in more languages, Kontent.ai's automatic translation feature can easily scale to meet your needs.
  4. Competitive Advantage: Offering content in multiple languages can give your business a competitive edge in today's global marketplace.

As an evolution of Translation, you should look into localization depending on your business needs.
